Medallion Time
Each year, DMSE gives its graduating students a cast bronze medallion of the MIT seal. These medallions are entirely prepared, cast and finished by students in the DMSE Foundry using the lost wax/investment casting process. All are welcome to help, and no experience is necessary. Three Rings, Three Ways
Three Rings, Three Ways will be a weekly class that explores lost-wax casting, hard soldering, design construction, patination, bezel and tube stone setting, and forging. American Foundry Society Visit

DMSE Presents Wootz Findings
Students in DMSE’s capstone course 3.042 will present their work on Wootz steel replication on 05.12.15 @ 3pm in the Chipman Room (6-104). Wootz steel orginated in south India in six century BC and is characterized by bands of ultra-high, micro-carbides within a tempered martensite or pearlite matrix. Image: Detail of Wootz knife.
